Jeanes Hospital Named America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care for Three Years in a Row

Jeanes Hospital is again one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care according to a national study by Healthgrades, one of the leading online resources for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at almost 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions, as well as tracking outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states and the District of Columbia.

Jeanes also was named among America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery™ for the second consecutive year (2018-2019) and among the 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care™ in 2019. The achievements were announced as part of the Healthgrades 2019 Report to the Nation, which was released today. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance differs dramatically between hospitals nationally, regionally and at the local level, and the impact that this variation has on health outcomes.

“Healthgrades measures hospitals on a number of important factors to determine where to find the best care, both regionally and nationally. Jeanes Hospital is honored to be among those chosen as the best, both in the region and nationally,” said Marc P. Hurowitz, DO, MBA, FAAFP, president and CEO of Jeanes Hospital. “We strive for excellence in every aspect of clinical care, and receiving these awards is a wonderful acknowledgement for every employee and medical staff member at Jeanes.”

In addition to the traditional medical services of a strong community hospital, Jeanes provides the advanced surgical and diagnostic services associated with an academic medical center, as well as a modern, state-of-the-art emergency department. Jeanes offers complex, high quality care in a community setting.

“Hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care have proven their dedication to quality care and exceptional outcomes,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer at Healthgrades. “Consumers should consider hospital quality when navigating their care journeys, and this recognition distinguishes Jeanes Hospital in the marketplace.”

Jeanes Hospital was also recognized for the following clinical achievements:
  • Recipient of the Healthgrades Stroke Care Excellence Award™ for three consecutive years (2017-2019)
  • Recipient of the Healthgrades 2019 Pulmonary Care Excellence Award
  • Recipient of the Healthgrades 2019 General Surgery Excellence Award
  • Five-Star Recipient for Appendectomy for five consecutive years (2015-2019)
  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Sepsis for two consecutive years (2018-2019)
  • Five-Star Recipient for Overall Bariatric Surgery for seven consecutive years (2013-2019)

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for almost 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluated outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states and the District of Columbia. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
