Dr. Boova is recognized as one of the region’s most dedicated and experienced cardiovascular surgeons. Following his training at Jefferson and for nearly two decades, he acted as Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Bryn Mawr and Jefferson Main Line Health Hospital—personally treating more than 6,000 patients over this period. For the past two years he directed CT surgery at St. John Medical where he held a faculty appointment at Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Boova has extensive surgical experience in off-pump (beating heart) coronary artery bypass surgery, stentless aortic valve replacement, transcatheter aortic valve implant, and valve repair. He is also skilled in left ventricular remodeling (Batista procedure), transmyocardial laser revascularization, and surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation as well as special techniques such as myocardial preservation, advanced and extracorporeal circulatory support, peri-surgical blood salvage, and accelerated-track cardiac surgery recovery. Many of Dr. Boova’s patients are octogenarians or advanced risk patients such as those with combined coronary and carotid disease or with complex cardiac conditions or comorbidities that increase surgical risk.

Throughout his career, Dr. Boova has led research efforts involving new surgical devices or methods for use in less invasive procedures. He has presented dozens of papers at scientific meetings. Most recently, he acted as coinvestigator for the pivotal trial of transcatheter aortic valve implantation. To accelerate development of improved methods, he is frequently called upon to lead educational seminars for surgeons and health systems and he has consulted directly with many device companies.
