Speech Pathology

Speech-Language Pathologists at Jeanes Hospital provide complete inpatient and outpatient services for communication and swallowing disorders. Family education, and rehabilitation and recovery training are part of our comprehensive care.

Adult Communication Services

We serve adults who may have difficulty due to neurological impairments (stroke, head injury), progressive neurological disorders (Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis), cardiopulmonary diseases, and voice disorders due to vocal cord pathology. Adult speech-language services include therapy for:

  • Speech, language and cognitive-communication rehabilitation
  • Voice rehabilitation
  • Articulation
  • Accent reduction
Adult Swallowing Services

A comprehensive evaluation and treatment program is also available for inpatient and outpatient adults who have difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). Services include:

  • Clinical swallowing evaluations
  • Videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluations with a radiologist
  • Therapeutic motor and sensory exercises and diet texture modifications
  • Family and caregiver education regarding safe swallowing strategies and aspiration reduction
Pediatric Communication Services

We also serve children who have autism spectrum disorders/pervasive developmental disorders, developmental language delays, and articulation/phonological disorders. Pediatric speech-language services include therapy for improving:

  • Receptive language development
  • Expressive language development
  • Pragmatic/social language development
  • Articulation and phonological development
  • Fluency (stuttering)

Our Speech-Language Pathologists are board certified through the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensed through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
